We understand how intricate modeling can be so we came up with a few tips to help take your photos to the next level.
Be Unique
The modeling world is oversaturated and it is really hard to stand out. List some of the physical features that you believe make you stand out from everyone else. When you are putting together a photo shoot make sure to choose the right things to help highlight your unique area.
Practice
As the saying goes practice makes perfect and it works better with a mirror. Get a few poses from Google, Instagram, Pinterest, etc and practice, practice, practice. Breathe and use your eyebrows. Taking a deep breath right before the photographer takes the image will help keep your face relaxed and allow you to control your facial expressions. Eyebrows help to express your emotions and slight movements will show versatility in your photos.
Bonus Tip: Be Fluid, play music and allow your body to move.
Tell A Story
With Technology inspiration is at our fingertips, use it to your advantage. In order to keep your images cohesive you have to tell a story. Put together a mood board to help streamline your concept. Use magazine clippings, social media, and google to find images that relate to what you are trying to accomplish.
Choose Wisely
Not all photographers are the right fit. Do some research on a photographer you want to work with. While doing so, ask yourself a few questions: What do they shoot? Does the photographer’s aesthetic match your’s? What was someone else’s experience with shooting with this photographer?. The better the photos, the easier it is to get booked!
Stay Organized
There are a lot of different types of modeling. Make note of the type of modeling you like and work with that. Make sure your instagram account reflects the type of modeling you would like to showcase. Archive previous posts that do not fit your aesthetic. A clean and organized instagram account helps with clients reviewing your work easier and booking you faster.
Be Consistent
As the saying goes “Out of sight out of mind”. If you want to see results you have to be consistent. Remaining in people’s mind is key. Posting on your social media platforms is a way of staying relevant and fresh in people’s mind. Use it to your advantage.
Network
Who you know in the industry is very important, it’ll take you a long way. Make sure to maintain your current network as well as continue to build new relationships. Keeping the conversation going in the comment sections or just simply starting a conversation via direct messenger may help with making a connection.
Bonus Tip: Reach out to Photographers, Makeup Artists, Hairstylist, Wardrobe Stylist, agencies, etc. to build a connection and add to your portfolio.
